It's not about the camera!

After looking at their picture, the wrong thing to say to a photographer is, "You must have a nice camera."

After looking at their picture, the wrong thing to say to a photographer is, "You must have a nice camera." To a photographer, the camera is a tool, like you have a Skilsaw, you still have to learn to cut with it, control it, and understand the different blades you need to cut proper wood or material. It takes practice and time to master. You can try to set the camera to auto mode, and with the latest AI, it still needs the human touch to perfect what you're trying to capture. Not all photographers are the same. We use the camera differently for portraits, sports, landscapes, wildlife, etc. My friend is a great portrait photographer. They know how to pose their subject, use proper lighting, and use a prime lens and settings to get shots you see in magazines, something I am not strong in. I shoot air shows, and you must understand how to capture different planes, from warbirds to jets, in very different settings. You need to understand not only the camera but also the settings on the lens, the environment, the routines that the pilot will do, and be ready physically. Compliment the photographer and ask how they captured the shot. The camera is only a tool.
